Useful Tips For A Stress-Free House Move

If you are moving house for the first time, you may wonder what it will entail. Truth is, if you’re not prepared you will find it results in one of the worst experiences of your life. That may sound a bit over-dramatic, but when you start to think about what is involved you will see what I mean.

Choosing the right removal firm is obviously the number one priority because you want the peace of mind in knowing that all your possessions are going to arrive at your new home in one piece. Experience then is a key consideration, and from my experience it is the deciding factor rather than price. The best thing to do is ask friends and family who they might have used in the past. Recommendation always helps and you can be sure you’re not going to get bad information from them.

Alternatively, use the Internet. A simple search command such as ‘Plymouth removals’ should throw up a good selection of firms to choose from and their websites should give you all the information you need, including testimonials from past customers which should give a clear indication of how good the firm is. Some will even have spare boxes with them in case you have some odds and ends that you haven’t managed to pack in time.

When choosing your removals firm ask them to explain how they will transport your possessions to ensure they are safe.

Another useful tip is to arrange moving day for some time during the week rather than a weekend. Off-peak moving is a lot more comfortable and easier and quicker. It might also be cheaper with the removal firm.

Also, if you have children and/or pets, give a thought to how they will cope with the big move. If you have very young children you will feel a lot less stressed if you can arrange for them to stay with other family members or friends you trust while the actual move takes place. The same goes for pets as it can become a nightmare trying to keep an eye on them while keeping an eye on how the emptying of the house is progressing.

Lastly, and it may seem a trivial matter, but the last thing you want to be doing on moving day is worrying about what you’re going to eat that night. So rather than pack and take food – just have a takeaway to celebrate your first night in your new home!
